iShowU HD - Fixed Frame durations & ProRes

This week I’ve been attacking a few lingering bugs in the Lion side of things. I’m now quite happy where things are at. Recording seems to be working very well, and in addition I even managed to get ProRes working.

Beginning on Monday I’ll be testing the HD version here on both Lion and Snow Leopard, with a release coming Monday afternoon NZ time. Thanks you to those who sent in crash reports… it is really helping me find issues that do not show up here.

In summary, the next release of HD will include:

  • Updated documentation. There’s now a section detailing all of the differences in the Lion version. This is present on the help site as well.
  • ProRes support.
  • Presets have been revisited somewhat. Primarily the ProRes variants. These have been reduced in number to 720/1080p variants with two different fps rates.
  • 23.98fps is now a choosable option in the frame rate dropdown list (the gear menu button on the Output toolbar segment).
  • The ability to reencode after a recording is done. You can get to this feature by right clicking a completed recording thumbnail, and choosing the ‘Reencode (fix frame durations)’ menu option. When running on Lion this is done automatically if you turn ‘variable frame durations’ off. The reencoding causes the movie to be neatly arranged into a fixed frame duration format, suitable for import into FCP/FCX (although I’m sure FCX won’t need it – it’s far far more ‘durable’ when it comes to importing digital footage in my experience).
  • Videos within the One Click Publishing manager now have a context menu with ‘Reveal in Finder’. Right/Cmd click click a video thumbnail within the OCP manager to use this.

For iShowU v1 (Classic) – we have revisted the presets as well. This’ll be coming out in a 1.91.2 shortly. On that note – I think 1.91.2 is pretty stable now. We’ll probably mark it as stable this coming week.

Oh, and I finally found and fixed that annoying ‘buzz’ sound that occurs when you start v1 (sometimes!!!!). Yay for silent startup.
