Frequently Asked Questions

  • Chatter fails to start a video conference - This can happen for a number of reasons - and the best way to begin tracking down what the problem could be is to first verify that you can create a standard video conference between yourself and your iChat buddy. If you cant get a conference in iChat to work properly - then the problem isn't with Chatter - check your firewall/port settings are correct as this can often be the cause of the problem.

  • How can I check my iChat ports / firewall settings are correct?
Here's some links to the official Apple content on this subject:

Using iChat with a firewall or NAT router
    Hosting an iChat Theater presentation

  • Does it run on Tiger? - No, Chatter is a Leopard only application - a Tiger version won't be created.

  • Does it work with Jabber/Google accounts? - No, Chatter is currently designed only to work with AIM and .Mac accounts. AIM accounts are free, and can be obtained from: http://dashboard.aim.com/aim

  • The video quality seems poor - can I make it better? - The quality of the video sent over iChat Theatre is controlled by iChat, not by Chatter. iChat will often limit the amount of data being sent dependant on the bandwidth - and there's almost nothing you can do to influence this. If you have the choice - use Chatter over Bonjour - the quality is much much better.
